UPDATE: The City of Summit Protection of Trees Ordinance has Changed!
Requirements
Prior to the removal of a private tree that is 12 inches or more in diameter, city ordinance requires a tree permit. Please complete the City of Summit Tree Removal Permit (PDF), which may be submitted by mail to the Department of Community Services, at 512 Springfield Avenue in Summit, dropped off at the DCS counter on the 2nd floor or

This policy also applies to landmark trees (PDF). Please allow up to 10 days for permit applications to be processed.
The City Forester is available by appointment on Thursdays for consultation on city tree-related matters.
Tree Replacements Within Summit
Through Chapter 29, the City of Summit has adopted an official list of recommended and prohibited species of trees to be planted which can be found HERE.
