vote newsfeed

The City of Summit Office of the City Clerk is sharing information regarding voter registration and party affiliation declarations for the Primary Election on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

Voter Registration Deadline

The last day to register to vote in the June Primary is Tuesday, May 17. The Clerk’s Office will be open until 9PM on May 17 for voter registration. Registration forms must be returned by mail or in person to the Union County Board of Elections or the Summit Clerk’s Office by May 17. Forms are available at the Clerk’s Office or online in English and Spanish. Residents may also register online to vote.

Party Affiliation Declaration

The deadline to change party affiliation is Wednesday, April 13. To vote in the June Primary, residents must be registered as either Democrat or Republican; residents who are registered as other parties may not vote in the June Primary.

First time or unaffiliated voters may declare their party at the polls on June 7, but only if they have never declared their party before. Unaffiliated voters who vote by mail will receive ballots for both the Democratic and Republican parties and shall return only one, thereby declaring the voter’s party.

Party affiliation declaration forms must be signed by the voter and returned by mail or in person to the Union County Board of Elections by April 13, or the Summit Clerk’s Office by 4:30 PM on April 13. Forms are available on the Union County Board of Elections website in English and Spanish.

More information is available on the Union County Board of Elections website. The City of Summit Office of the City Clerk is located on the second floor of City Hall, at 512 Springfield Avenue in Summit, NJ 07901. Please contact the Clerk’s Office at 908-273-6400 with any questions.
