The plan to begin the remote conferences was announced by Council President Marjorie Fox at the July 6 meeting of Summit Common Council.
Each session will include Mayor Radest and three Common Council members. Members of council will participate on a rotating basis. A link to the meeting will be posted on the city website a few days prior to the scheduled meeting.
“Creating connections within our community and establishing channels to increase participation in the democratic process is essential to creating a community that belongs to everyone,” explains Mayor Radest. “I look forward to participating with council in these ongoing remote conversations.”
Participation in public meetings by video conference began during the COVID-19 health pandemic. Council returned to in-person meetings on June 1, 2021.
Mayor Radest continues: “Officials are looking into how we may initiate a hybrid meeting format and what the cost to taxpayers would be to implement that technology in the Council Chamber.”
