SUMMIT, N.J., June 9, 2021 – The Summit Police Department has been awarded a grant for body cameras in the amount of $118,000 from the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.

Monies from the grant will allow the Summit Police Department to continue its current body camera program into 2026, with little to no cost to the city.

“Body cameras are an important public safety tool that helps officers to carry out their sworn duties,” explains Summit Police Chief Andrew Bartolotti. “The state grant will enable Summit to purchase and maintain equipment that every officer will use. This program promotes transparency in policing and, more importantly, enhances trust within our community.”

In November 2020, Governor Murphy signed legislation requiring every uniformed patrol officer in New Jersey to be outfitted with a body worn camera.
