At the next Common Council meeting on Tuesday, February 4, there will be two presentations. First, Vivian Furman and Estelle Fournier from Summit Public Arts Committee will present a proposal to renovate the fountain at the Promenade Park. Second, Henry Bassman, Commander of the American Legion Lindsey Street Post, will speak about Four Chaplains Day, which is celebrated on February 3.

Council will vote on a number of routine resolutions that are presented annually to keep city government running, including an amendment to the temporary operating budget which allows the city to spend funds until the final budget is adopted in April, and three resolutions for professional services contracts for the city forester, bond counsel, and municipal audit services. There is also a resolution from the Finance Committee for a bookkeeping measure to close out 2019 operating accounts. Council will vote on a resolution authorizing the city engineer, and when required, the Mayor, to execute all permit documents prepared or required by other governmental agencies, on behalf of the city for this calendar year. This will allow projects to be approved in an expeditious manner, with oversight provided at the Common Council committee level. Finally, council will consider a resolution certifying that City of Summit hiring practices comply with the certain provisions of the Federal Civil Rights Act of 1964. This certification must be submitted with the municipal budget pursuant to state law.

Council will also hear a resolution to submit an application for recertification as a Tree City USA. Summit has been a Tree City for 24 years and the designation makes grant funding available to the city. Council will also approve an agreement that a Councilmember donate his compensation for service on the Joint Meeting Board of Trustees, which operates a regional wastewater treatment plant, to the Summit Area Public Foundation.
