Statement from Summit Mayor Nora G. Radest on passing of Councilmember Matthew J. Gould
An amazing human being left us all too soon on Tuesday. Matt Gould was dedicated to our community and served as a creative force for good. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Matt have lost a dear friend and an inspirational colleague. Matt leaves behind a beautiful family and many deep friendships that only he could have built. His joyful spirit, innate kindness and compassion will live on in each of us and it will be how we remember him always.
During his time on Common Council, Matt served as a member of safety, capital projects and community programs committees where he worked closely with city leadership, focused on infrastructure and parking improvements, as well as vehicle and pedestrian safety initiatives. He was a ardent advocate for the environment and established effective relationships with staff, sharing an ongoing and seemingly endless stream of ideas. Matt treated everyone he met with with dignity and respect.
The joy, humor and sense of purpose that Matt shared as an elected official has left an indelible and lasting imprint on us all. He will be greatly missed.
