There will be a Common Council meeting held on March 5. The agenda for this meeting will include ordinances and resolutions from the meeting that was canceled on February 20. There will be a presentation by the City Engineer on a Sidewalk Master Plan. The presentation will highlight key components of the plan and be an opportunity to start the complex discussion on sidewalks. There will be two ceremonial award presentations by Mayor Nora G. Radest. The first will recognize Quinn Butler, who organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the Romas twins who need heart transplants (https://www.gofundme.com/help-the-twins-recover). The second will recognize American Red Cross Month.
Ordinance and Resolutions
Ordinance Introduction
There will be four ordinances introduced. The first ordinance relates to increasing the rate that the police will charge for an officer to be present for non-government related traffic jobs from $60/hour to $80/hour. The remaining ordinances relates to codifying the lane movements at the intersection between Passaic Avenue and River Road now that a new traffic light has been installed, codifying turn restrictions at the traffic light between Passaic Avenue and River Road, and approving the annual authorization to allow the city to adjust its final budget based on the Cost of Living Adjustment to a cap of 3.5% over last year’s appropriations.
Resolutions
There are a few resolutions for consideration in addition to the February 20 resolutions. The first resolution is to certify that the hiring practices of the city comply with federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s guidance on the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The second resolution establishes criteria for the Volunteer of the Year Award. The third resolution approves a bid for repaving Laurel Avenue and Larned Road. The fourth resolution relates to repaving Springfield Avenue by City Hall, which will include angled parking by City Hall. The fifth resolution relates to the renewal of the joint purchase program with New Providence, Milburn and Chatham Borough for the acquisition of vehicles and equipment. The sixth resolution is for annual recertification of the city’s Tree USA status. The seventh resolution is for an application to Union County for funds related to the Wallace Road project. Finally, there is a resolution to seek NJ DEP Green Acres funds to improve accessibility at Reeves-Reed Arboretum.
