There will be a Common Council meeting held on February 5. This meeting will focus primarily on the annual process of renewing external professional contracts, as well as consolidating existing bond notes for subsequent sale. There will be a presentation by a Summit resident volunteer from the Union County Air Traffic Noise Advisory Board on the role of this board and its relevance to residents.
Union County Air Traffic Noise Advisory Board Presentation
The metropolitan airspace is among the busiest in the world. The Advisory Board’s purpose is to help make the skies quieter and to help head off potential air traffic changes that create adverse noise impact. Given Summit’s proximity to Newark airport, the issue of noise impact and flight path direction is of significant concern.
Ordinance and Resolutions
There will be an ordinance introduced to change two metered spaces in the downtown from 90-minute to 15-minute parking on Monday to Saturday from 8AM to 6PM. A business owner has made the request for this change. The two spaces are located on the north side of Springfield Avenue between Maple Street and Beechwood Road.
There are six resolutions for consideration. The first resolution relates to the consolidation of short-term notes into long-term bonds based on a recommendation from bond advisors for the city. The second resolution requires a vote on whether or not to continue contracts with engineering and design professionals associated with city projects, including road work. The third resolution for consideration will garner decisions on a few job vacancies and sick leave requests. The fourth resolution will amend the existing Summit Free Market agreement to allow related grant monies to be used to help fund the building project. The fifth resolution will require a vote on whether or not to accept monies donated to help fund the Hometown Heroes program. Finally, the sixth resolution will entail consideration of appointments of volunteers to certain city committees.
