The City of Summit is announcing Skip the Straw, a new initiative that will focus on reducing the use of plastic straws in Summit.
Organized by the Recycling Advisory Committee, Environmental Commission and Green Summit with support from the Summit Department of Community Services, Skip the Straw is a community partnership that brings together residents, businesses and organizations for a common cause.
The campaign aims to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment through education and community outreach. The group is engaging local businesses and residents to stop creating excess plastic trash at its source.
Businesses will be asked to make a voluntary commitment to serve straws by request only or switch to an alternative to plastic straws. Residents are encouraged to order drinks without a straw or to carry a reusable straw.
Every business or organization in Summit that uses straws will be contacted by Skip the Straw volunteers and asked to participate in the program.
