[ARCHIVED] Skip the Straw campaign launch on Thursday, November 1 at 3PM

Skip the Straw campaign(2)

The City of Summit is inviting members of the media and general public for a press event on Thursday, November 1 at 3PM at City Hall on 512 Springfield Ave. to announce the launch of its Skip the Straw campaign, a new initiative that will reduce plastic straw waste in Summit.

Organized by the Summit Department of Community Services, Recycling Advisory Committee, Environmental Commission and Green Summit, the Skip the Straw initiative is a community partnership that brings together residents, businesses and organizations for a common cause. Summit Mayor Nora Radest, city staff and members of businesses participating in the initial campaign launch will attend the press event and be available for reporters.

The campaign aims to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment through education and community outreach. The group is engaging local businesses and residents to stop creating excess plastic trash at its source. Businesses will make a voluntary commitment to serve straws by request only or switch to an alternative to plastic straws. Residents are encouraged to order drinks without a straw or carry a reusable straw.

To confirm your attendance at the November 1 press event or for more information on the Skip the Straw campaign, please contact pressoffice@cityofsummit.org or call the City of Summit Communications Office at 908-277-9418.
