Summit Police Department Achieves Re-Accreditation from NJ State Association of Chiefs of Police
The City of Summit is proud to announce that the Summit Police Department has received its re-accreditation from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP), a distinction awarded to less than a third of police departments across the state.
This marks the department’s first re-accreditation, following its initial accreditation three years ago. To maintain accredited status, law enforcement agencies must complete a thorough review process every three years, ensuring continued compliance with evolving best practices in public safety.

Summit Police Detective Darin Sliker Receives Life Saving Award and Exceptional Duty Award
The City of Summit and the Summit Police Department proudly recognized Detective Darin Sliker with the Life Saving Award and the Exceptional Duty Award during the Common Council meeting on July 29, 2025. The awards were presented by Police Chief Ryan Peters, honoring Detective Sliker’s courageous and life-saving actions while off duty.

Promotional Ceremonies
Mayor Elizabeth Fagan officiated the swearing-in and promotional ceremonies for two members of the Summit Police Department at City Hall on Wednesday, July 30. Detective Sergeant Charlie Robertson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and Detective Ruddy Garita was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Congratulations to Lt Robertson and Sgt Garita on these well-deserved accomplishments. Thank you both for your service to our community!
