An extreme weather advisory has been issued for Summit, NJ

Heavy rains and intense winds are expected for Summit NJ today; residents are advised to prepare for potential flooding conditions later in the afternoon and hazardous wind conditions overnight. https://noaa.gov/weather

Stay Off the Roads

For your safety and to aid emergency services, please refrain from unnecessary travel. Keep the roads clear for emergency and maintenance vehicles. If travel during the storm is necessary, do not drive through standing water.

Always obey road closure signs and barricades; these indicators are placed for your safety to prevent access to hazardous areas.

Report Power Outages to JCP&L

Any power outage should be reported directly to JCP&L at 888-LIGHTSS. Avoid walking near or touching any downed wires even if you think it is no longer carrying electricity. Report downed power lines immediately by calling 911. Assume all downed lines are energized and dangerous.

Make Home Safety Precautions

Ensure flashlights are ready, batteries are replaced, and emergency kits are updated. Check that generators are fueled and functioning.

Updated information during the storm and during potential restoration and clean-up efforts will be available on the city website and on city social media channels.

Early closing notice

The Community Center will close at 5PM and the Summit library will close at 4:30PM today, Tuesday, January 9, due to expected strong winds and heavy rain in the Summit area.
