While members of Common Council always appreciate when citizens are able to attend our meetings, we understand that often our constituents are unable to do so. Following is my summary with some highlights from the meeting on Tuesday night.  The Council meetings are also available to watch on HTTV at

Reports, Presentations, and Proclamations

The Mayor announced her holiday adjusted office hours (none on Mondays 12/26/16 and 1/2/17) and thanked retiring Councilwoman Sandra Lizza for her service. City Administrator Michael Rogers also announced city offices would be closed 12/26 and 1/2 but reiterated trash removal would take place on schedule.  He also described the free parking initiative at the meters downtown and the valet car service at the Tier Garage as well as the open gym at the Rec Center over the holidays and also thanked Councilwoman Lizza. Council President McTernan’s report mentioned the passing of former Councilwoman Helen Huber, an article describing how New York City was adopting parking technology (Parkmobile) Summit has been using for four years and finally, also thanked Councilwoman Lizza for her service.

Public Comments

There were no public comments at this week’s Council meeting.

Ordinances

An ordinance creating a temporary municipal court judge position had its hearing and was adopted.

Resolutions

Thirty-five resolutions were passed at this week’s Council meeting.  Highlights were the resolutions approving professional service contracts with various city advisors and lawyers, appointing Judge Callahan to the new Municipal Court judge position, authorizing the purchase of two police vehicles, accepting a $2000 donation from the Summit Elks for police bullet proof vests, and awarding of a contract to haul recyclables from the Transfer Station.

Council Comments

All Council members thanked Councilwoman Lizza for her service. In addition, many thanked City Solicitor Albert Cruz for his help this year on Council.  Finally Councilwoman Lizza summarized the accomplishments of the council the last three years and thanked the Council and Summit residents for their support during her term.
