The Summit DCP and Police Department are announcing Summit’s National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 on the Village Green beginning at 6PM.
Summit will join thousands of communities across the United States to celebrate NNO, a community-building event that takes place annually on the first Tuesday of August. Featuring a variety of state, federal, and municipal level agencies, NNO provides a chance for neighborhoods to come together with the men and women who protect and serve them.
Displays & demonstrations by the US Coast Guard, National Guard, FBI, Transit and Postal Police, Union County SWAT, K9, and Sheriff Departments along with Summit Police, Fire, EMS, and Public Works Departments will line the Village Green on Tuesday night.
Displays & demonstrations, food trucks, and rides & amusements including the “Dunk-a-Cop for A Cause” dunk tank will open at 6 p.m. The popular Chris Clark Bicycle Stunt Show will begin at 6:15 p.m. followed by YMCA fitness demonstrations at 6:30 p.m. The annual Blessing of the Badges will occur at 7 PM on the main stage followed by new live entertainment this year, World of Rock.
The “Dunk-a-Cop for A Cause” dunk tank will benefit Avedis (Avi) Akian, a 14 year old, lifelong resident of Summit, NJ. In January 2009 he was diagnosed with a progressive neurodegenerative disease called Ataxia Telangiectasia. A-T, is a rare genetic disease that attacks children, causing progressive loss of muscle control, immune system problems, and a high rate of cancer. Although A-T robs Avi of many physical abilities, it has spared his cognition, his humor and wit and his ability to dream of becoming a bakery owner/pastry chef.
Summit’s 2016 NNO is sponsored by Overlook Hospital, the Grand Summit Hotel, the HAT Tavern, Arts & Crafts, and the Summit PAL.
