The City of Summit Division of Public Works is beginning work on a project today, August 23, to restore and install war memorials on the Village Green. The project was approved by Common Council earlier this year and is being funded by the Summit Elks and the American Legion Post 322. As part of the project, the World War II Memorial will be renovated, and a new monument will be installed honoring those who fought and died during the global war on terror. Granite benches will be added and walkways surrounding the monuments will be replaced. Additional upgrades that include landscaping, lighting and a refurbished flagpole will be completed later this year.
