July 30 update at 2:45PM: The sinkhole discovered on Broad Street yesterday (July 29) has been repaired and the street has been reopened in both directions.
A sinkhole was discovered earlier today near a damaged manhole on Broad Street by the Summit Fire Department. City crews have assessed the area and are in the process of securing the necessary materials for repair.
As a result, eastbound Broad Street between Summit Avenue and Walnut Street is closed to traffic. The westbound lane will also be closed overnight, with crews aiming to reopen the westbound lane by tomorrow morning. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes.
Repair work is ongoing, and updates will be provided as progress continues.
