[ARCHIVED] IMPORTANT HEALTH ADVISORY: RABID SKUNK ALERT

Please be advised: A rabid skunk was recently captured in the area of Valley View Avenue in Summit.

Rabies is a fatal disease that can be transmitted to humans and animals through bites, scratches, or open wounds that come into contact with the saliva of an infected animal.

If you, a family member, or your pets had any contact with this skunk or any other wildlife that appeared sick or behaved strangely, please contact the Westfield Regional Health Department immediately at 908-789-4070.

Please report any sick or aggressive animals to the police department at 908-273-0051 and ensure that rabies vaccinations for pets are up to date.
