Activity blotter July 14 to 27, 2025
07/14/2025—At 0903 hours the Summit Police Department responded to a residence on Fernwood Road near Route 124 for a report of an attempted burglary to a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the caller who advised that at approximately 0131 hours, surveillance footage displayed a person wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, black shorts, and a mask walking up their driveway and attempting to gain entry to an Audi Q7; however, the doors were locked and they were unsuccessful. The suspect can then be seen running back to the street where an unknown car was waiting. While on scene, the resident further advised that a similar incident occurred the prior week, on 07/06/25 at approximately 2316 hours, but was never reported. In that surveillance footage, a person wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, black pants, black shoes, and a mask exited a dark-colored sedan, proceeded up the driveway, and attempted to enter the Audi Q7 and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Entry was not made as both vehicles were locked. The suspect can then be seen running back to the sedan prior to leaving the area.
07/15/2025—At approximately 0910 hours a 24-year-old male was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Bloomfield. The defendant was processed and released with a pending court date.
07/16/2025—At approximately 0838 hours a 27-year-old male from Piscataway was arrested and charged with harassment. The defendant was processed and released with a pending municipal court date.
07/20/2025—At 1330 hours police units responded to a theft that had just occurred at a retail store on Springfield Avenue. The caller stated they observed two unknown male actors take a large quantity of clothing and place it in a large red target bag. The suspects then exited the business and fled the area on foot. The exact number of items that were stolen is unknown, but it is believed that the total monetary value of the stolen items is approximately $4,000.
7/22/2025—At approximately 0348 hours patrol initiated a motor vehicle stop for violation 39:4-81, Failure to Observe a Red Traffic Signal. On-scene investigation resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old male from West Orange for driving while intoxicated. The defendant was processed and released with a pending date.
07/26/2025—At approximately 1735 hours a 45-year-old male from Summit was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, burglary, and criminal mischief. The defendant was processed and transported to Essex County Jail pending a detention hearing.
07/27/2025—At approximately 1346 hours a 40-year-old male from Summit was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and criminal mischief. The defendant was processed and transported to Essex County Jail pending a detention hearing.
07/27/2025—At 1350 hours police units responded to a theft that had just occurred at a retail store on Springfield Avenue. The called stated that an unknown female actor took multiple clothing items and exited the store. The monetary value of the items stolen was unknown at the time of the report.
