On Monday 06/09/25 at approximately 0235 hours the Summit Police Department responded to a residence on Larned Road near Mountain Avenue for a report of a burglary in progress.
Upon arrival, an on-scene investigation was conducted, and surveillance footage revealed the suspect vehicle, a stolen 2017 Mercedes Benz GLC bearing NJ Reg. W78NBF, pulled in front of the residence at approximately 0226 hours and remained idle while one (1) suspect exited and attempted to gain entry into a 2025 BMW X6, which was parked and locked in the driveway. Upon identifying the vehicle was locked, the suspect ran back to the stolen Mercedes Benz before ultimately returning to the residence with a second suspect. Both suspects then proceeded to the back yard where they located an unsecure door, gaining access to the interior of the residence. It was at that time the resident(s) woke up from the chime of the house alarm and yelled downstairs for the suspects to “get out.” Both suspects can then be seen on surveillance footage running from the residence back to the stolen Mercedes Benz SUV waiting in the street. Nothing was reported stolen, nor was there contact between the suspect(s) and the resident(s) during the incident. Following a broadcast to surrounding towns, an outside police agency located the suspect vehicle and engaged in a pursuit that ultimately terminated in Essex County.
The Summit Police Department urges all residents to conduct a “nightly routine,” to include securing all doors to residences and vehicles, as well as activating alarm systems. Please remain vigilant and report all suspicious activity. Thank you and be safe.
