The Summit Police Department is advising the community about a concerning incident that was reported to us 12 hours after its occurrence.

Around 4AM on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, suspicious activity was observed at a residence on West Lane. Three individuals, wearing face masks and hoods, were seen walking around a home, peering into windows using a cell phone flashlight. One of the suspects was carrying a crowbar. When the homeowner's dog began barking and the exterior security lights were activated, the suspects fled to a waiting white BMW X5 that sped away from the scene.

The suspects were likely attempting to gain access to the home to steal key fobs for two high-end vehicles parked in the driveway.

We urge all residents to remain vigilant in securing their homes and property:
• Ensure key fobs, especially for high-end vehicles, are kept in a secure location in the home and out of plain sight.
• Lock all doors and windows.
• Engage alarm systems.
• Activate exterior lights and security cameras if available.

Immediate reporting of suspicious activities can make a significant difference in preventing crime and apprehending suspects. If you see suspicious behavior, do not hesitate to contact the Summit Police Department immediately. Your vigilance and cooperation are crucial in keeping our community safe.
