At approximately 12:01AM on Tuesday, March 1, Summit Police Department patrol officers responded to the report of an attempted suicide at St. Teresa Cemetery on 136 Passaic Avenue in Summit.
On arrival, units discovered a critically injured Summit man, age 54, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was lying on the ground near his vehicle. The victim was rushed to Morristown Medical Center where he was put on life support and later passed away.
Out of respect for the family, the name of the victim is not being released at this time.
The incident is being investigated by the Summit Police Department Detective Bureau.
