[ARCHIVED] Dept of Community Programs Cancellations Update

The City of Summit Department of Community Programs is canceling all special events and programs at the Summit Community Center for the next 30 days or until at least April 12.  

The Senior Lounge at the Community Center is closed, and all after school clubs, activities and Open Gym programs (for all ages) are canceled until further notice. After school programs and activities for youth, including Share the Fun Club, will resume when Summit Public Schools are back in session.
 
The annual PAL Egg Hunt on April 4 that is held on the Summit Village Green has been canceled.

 
Canceled Programs for Seniors

Yoga on Monday at 12PM and Mah Jongg at 1PM 

T’ai Chi on Wednesday at 10AM 

Mah Jongg on Thursday at 10AM and Forever Fit at 1:15PM 

Yoga  on Friday at 9:30AM Bingo on March 13 at 1PM

St. Patrick’s Day Lunch on March 17 at 12PM 

Union County History Class on March 20 at 1PM 

Painting Workshop on April 7 at 10AM  

Pickleball classes

Canceled Programs for Youth

Elementary Drawing, Lego Motorized Building, Cartooning, Magic Secrets and Sign Language

The start of volleyball, cheerleading and fencing programs is postponed until school reopens.


Canceled TryCAN Programs

TryCAN cooking, CommuniPlay, TryCAN Social Skills and TryCAN Reading

The start of Social Skills, Yoga Dance and Movement is postponed until school reopens.


Canceled Open Gym Programs

Yoga on Tuesday at 5:30PM, Zumba on Thursday at 7PM, and basketball, futsal, pickleball, badminton, little kid open gym, and open game room time


All building rentals and meetings at the Community Center are canceled.


These actions are based on guidance and recommendations from health officials, and a priority to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the Summit community and city staff.
 
The City of Summit continues to closely monitor developments in the global outbreak of COVID-19, providing daily updates on new mitigation practices and protocols being implemented citywide on the city website and social media channels (CityofSummitNJ on Facebook, twitter and Instagram).
