Glenside Field will be closed for artificial turf replacement beginning on or about Wednesday, November 8, weather permitting. The field will reopen for the spring 2018 sports season.
The full- and small-sized fields at Glenside Field will undergo the artificial turf replacement, using Shaw Sports Turf Legion 2.0 Spike Zone synthetic turf. This turf is currently used throughout the Union County Parks system. The project will include the installation of safety fencing to prevent soccer balls from leaving the field and entering Glenside Avenue and the painting of the field with lines for soccer and lacrosse.
Funding for the project is being provided by the Union County Capital Improvement Plan, with project costs totaling $525,000: $500,000 for the artificial turf and an additional $25,000 for fencing and poles.
The Glenside Field Project was originally completed in 2007 as a joint effort of Union County and the City of Summit; funding was provided by the Union County Kids Recreation Trust Fund Grant/Open Space Fund. The fields are maintained by the Summit Department of Community Services and scheduled by the Summit Department of Community Programs.
The Canine Unit of Union County at Glenside Field will remain open for the duration of the turf replacement project.
