[ARCHIVED] Road Improvement Projects Begin August 8 through August 14, Weather Permitting

NF Construction updates2

The City of Summit Department of Community Services is announcing two road improvement projects beginning August 8 and continuing through August 14, weather permitting.

Milling and paving operations on the entire length of Crescent Ave and Hillside Ave will begin on Tuesday, August 8 and continue through Friday, August 11, weather permitting. Street closures for through traffic will be in effect throughout the duration of milling and paving operations. Written notifications will be delivered to all affected residents. Residents should park on neighboring side streets before 7 AM. Residents are also able to park in the Board of Education parking lot at the rear of Lincoln Hubbard School.

In addition, a road micro-surfacing project will begin on Wednesday, August 9 and continue through Monday, August 14, weather permitting. Written notifications will be delivered to all affected residents. During the micro-surfacing process, access to driveways will be prohibited until the application is dry. Residents should park on neighboring side streets before 7 AM. Work on each street will take one day to complete. The current schedule is as follows:

  • Wednesday, August 9: Chapel St, Yale St, Princeton St
  • Thursday, August 10: Woodland Ave
  • Friday, August 11:  Silver Lake Dr, Windsor Rd, Cleveland Rd
  • Monday, August 14: Shunpike Rd, Linden Pl, Oak Forest Ln, Harvey Ct, Harvey Dr

Micro-surfacing is a cost efficient surface treatment to renew a road surface and extend the life of the pavement. During the process, a layer of asphalt emulsion is blended with finely crushed stone for traction to protect the pavement from moisture penetration and oxidation.

Emergency vehicles will always have access to roads in critical situations. Please contact the Department of Community Services (DCS) at 908-273-6404 with any questions. If it is necessary to leave cars on the street overnight, please contact the Summit Police Department at 908-273-0051 to avoid being ticketed. Residents are encouraged to check the City of Summit website daily for scheduling updates and other project-related information.
