    Campus fire safety

    The Summit Fire Dept is issuing a series of campus fire safety tips for college students to use during the school year. U.S. fire depts respond to an annual average of 3,870 structure fires in dormitories, fraternities, sororities, and off-campus housing. Safety tips

    Meet Summit police officers at Cops and Cones on August 24

    Stop by McCool's Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt (14 Beechwood Rd) from 1 to 3PM to chat with Summit police officers. Attendees can enjoy giveaways and will receive a voucher that can be used to purchase a scoop of any flavor of ice cream from McCool’s for $1.

    JCP&L power line inspections

    JCP&L will be conducting aerial patrol inspections of power lines in the Summit area for approximately one week, from August 11 to August 18, weather permitting. A blue and white helicopter with tail number N894HA will be flying above or alongside lines.

    SPD summer bicycle safety program runs through end of August

    To encourage children to practice bicycle safety, Summit police officers will distribute $5 gift cards to children that they observe demonstrating proper bicycle safety techniques, such as wearing a helmet, using hand signals and obeying traffic laws. Bike safety tips

    Tier Garage closed on weekends for repairs July 29 to August 29

    The Tier Garage will be closed for repairs between 5PM on Fridays and 4AM on Mondays from 7/29 to 8/29, weather permitting. Project schedule and timeline are subject to change. Please contact Parking Services at 908-522-5100 with any questions. View parking map (PDF)

    NJ American Water project on Morris Ave July 6 - August 10

    NJ American Water will be installing new water mains along Morris Ave between River Rd and Kent Place Blvd from 7/6 to 8/10, weather permitting. Work will be performed Monday to Friday from 8AM to 5:30PM. Summit Police will be onsite to direct traffic.

    New recycling vendor and schedule change effective July 1

    Recycling is now single stream; items do not need to be separated. Pickup is now five days a week on the same day as residents’ weekly trash collection, however, there is a modified schedule for the week of 7/4/22: all pickups are pushed back one day. View pickup schedule

    PSE&G replacing gas pipes in Summit

    Phase two of the PSE&G Gas System Modernization Program is currently underway in Summit. Work will continue through the end of 2022 and include replacement of nine miles of cast iron pipes with more durable plastic pipes. View schedule
